Find What You Need

ReGain Services

ReGain is an online mental health portal geared toward improving relationships among couples. The site is among a growing number of platforms geared specifically toward those looking to improve their relationship with their significant other. Many consider couples counseling to be the option for those who are struggling in or trying to save their marriage or relationship. But it can also be helpful for anyone who just wants to improve the way they connect or communicate with their spouse or partner.

ReGain allows you to sign up as an individual or couple, but in both cases the therapy focuses on you and your partner. The questions you will be asked will all stem from your relationship to help you and your spouse or partner learn about yourself, each other, the issues you face, and how to improve and strengthen your relationship. To get started, just answer the questionnaire online, you can sign up as a couple immediately or decide to invite your partner later. You may also opt to do relationship therapy solely on your own.

Once you’ve completed the questionnaire, you’ll be matched with a therapist and given a private therapy ‘room’ to communicate. It can take between a few hours and a few days to be assigned a therapist. If you don’t think the therapist is a good fit, you can request a change at any time.

Your therapy room is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week and you can enter it at any time. While in the room, you can ask questions, as well as leave messages and write about yourself and the issues you’re facing in your relationship. Your therapist will be able to login to the same room, read what you’ve written and respond. This ongoing dialogue will be in addition to live, weekly, 30-minute video chats that you can schedule.

If you are doing therapy as a couple, your spouse or partner will be invited into the same room and both of you will be able to see all the communication to and from the therapist. You and your partner don’t have to be in the same room on the same device to participate in the live chats, but you may find being together during the session to be more beneficial for your relationship-building.

ReGain offers access to licensed clinical social workers, licensed marriage and family therapists, licensed, trained and accredited psychologists, and licensed professional therapists. All have a Masters or Doctoral Degree in their field, as well as at least three years and 1000 hours of hands-on experience.

ReGain counselors will not work with you if you are under a court order to participate in therapy sessions. These services are also not appropriate if you are in an immediate crisis or emergency or experiencing domestic abuse.

What About ReGain Privacy?

Like most online mental health portals, once you’ve been assigned a therapist, you will be given a therapy ‘room.’ It’s your own personal, secure place to communicate with your therapist. If you are seeking counseling as a couple, your partner will be invited to this room, as well. The company says it uses state-of-the-art technology to protect your privacy and information and secure and encrypted databases that become scrambled if they are stolen or compromised.ReGain does collect, store and process your data to send you marketing communication from time to time. And if you opt-in and agree, ReGain may share some of your data with third parties for advertising purposes. Before beginning ReGain, you may want to review its privacy policy https://www.regain.us/privacy/ for yourself.

ReGain Customer Reviews

Online mental health therapy for couples can be a more affordable way to deal with issues you face. It will, on average, cost less than traditional in-person counseling. The ongoing, written dialogue does allow you to go back and read what you, your partner or therapist has said or thought and reflect on those things. It’s also more convenient and accessible, since you can participate from anywhere you have access to an internet-connected device.

One area where online couples therapy may lack is the ability of all three of you being in the same room together, and being able to have a conversation in real-time – which may be more helpful for some couples.

The online reviews for ReGain are mixed. On TrustPilot, you will find people were either really happy or really disappointed with the service. Most of the negative feedback deals with payment issues and problems with scheduling time with their assigned therapist. Many say ReGain charged them and they were unable to receive a therapist assignment or find a time where they could meet. You will find similar complaints registered with Consumers Advocate and the Better Business Bureau. Many of the complaints involve customers who were charged immediately for services they never received and have had issues receiving a refund.

Others have written positive recommendations based on their experience. You will see glowing reviews of therapists mentioned by name and how they have helped couples build stronger relationships and improve their communication with each other. You will find those who mention being given ‘homework’, which are generally worksheets or activities to complete or do in between live sessions, and talk about how helpful those things are.

ReGain Cost

ReGain doesn’t accept insurance, so all your costs for the services you receive will be out of pocket. The cost ranges from $60 to $90 a week, and is based on your personal preferences, where you live and counselor availability. ReGain will bill you every four weeks and you can pay by credit card or PayPal. You won’t be billed until you are matched with a counselor.

Your subscription includes unlimited messaging capability and live, 30-minute video chats with your counselor. ReGain does not require a contract and you can cancel at any time.

ReGain Company Background

ReGain was founded in 2016. It is headquartered in Sunnyvale, California and is part of Betterhelp – a large network of online mental health therapy websites. ReGain focuses solely on relationship-building therapy to help individuals or couples improve their connections and communication.

The Bottom Line on ReGain

If you’re looking for an affordable, convenient and easily accessible form of couples therapy, ReGain is worth considering. Therapists can help you work on and rebuild your relationship for as long as you want to keep your subscription. While many find this method of therapy to be helpful, others feel nothing replaces in-person therapy when it comes to improving your relationship.
