Calmerry is an online portal that is designed to provide affordable mental health support for those who need it. It offers unlimited messaging and monthly video conferencing with therapists who can help you work through a wide range of issues you may be facing.
Find What You Need
Calmerry does not offer a free trial, but the first thing that pops up when pulling up the site is a chance to sign up for a free webinar to give you an idea of how online therapy works and help you decide if it’s right for you.
To get started with Calmerry, you’ll have to create an account. Then, you’ll be asked a series of questions about yourself—your name, age, gender, state of residence, and relationship status. You’ll then have to answer some questions about your mental well-being and your goals for therapy. After that, you’ll have an online chat with a “mental health assistant” who will explain the plans Calmerry offers. You may be asked to choose one. You may feel pressured to make a decision, but you can always say you want to think about it and log back on another time.
If you choose to continue, you will be matched with a counselor quickly—often within an hour. You’ll be given a couple of choices and you can pick which therapist you think you’ll work best with. Calmerry attempts to try and match you with a therapist who resides in your state. That’s not always possible, so you may receive an out-of-state counselor who is licensed to practice in your state. Calmerry offers services from clinical psychologists, clinical social workers, licensed professional counselors, or marriage and family therapists. If at any time you don’t feel your counselor is a right fit, you can request a new one.
Once you’re assigned a counselor, you can get started with your therapy. The platform offers three different subscription plans. You can sign up for a text messaging only plan or one that offers video conferencing with your therapist.
You can send messages through text, audio, or video and the amount you can send is unlimited. The responses you receive back are dependent upon the therapist you are working with. Video sessions are 30 minutes each and you can either choose one a month or four a month, with an option to buy extra sessions. One small difference from many other mental health platforms is Calmerry doesn’t offer a phone call option. You have to meet with your counselor by video.
Something unique to Calmerry is its chatbot tool called “Coa.” It’s included with every subscription and it’s designed to help you track your mood and reflect on your day. What you type is stored in your online journal and you choose whether you share those things with your therapist. It’s designed to help you process emotions and identify patterns in your feelings.
Calmerry therapists are trained to help with a variety of mental health issues including:
- Anger Management
- Childhood Abuse
- Chronic Illness
- Eating Disorders
- Emotional Abuse
- Family Conflict
- Low Self-Esteem
- Relationship Issues
Calmerry admits its services aren’t for everyone. It won’t treat anyone under the age of 18 or someone who is under a court order to participate in therapy. Calmerry therapists also won’t provide counseling for anyone who:
- Needs a mental health condition diagnosis
- Needs someone to prescribe or manage medications
- Has already been diagnosed with a severe mental health illness
- Has a condition that requires in-person visits, on-site medical help or intensive mental health care
- Has had suicidal thoughts or behavior
- Has harmed themselves or had thoughts about hurting themselves or others
- Is experiencing a crisis or life-threatening situation
What About Calmerry Privacy?
Calmerry says its platform is HIPAA compliant and that all your personal information and data from your therapy sessions are encrypted on the company’s servers.
Like most online mental health platforms, once you are assigned a therapist, you are given a private chat room for all your messaging and video conferencing to take place.
What Medications Are Prescribed by Calmerry?
Therapists who work with Calmerry can’t diagnose mental health conditions. They also will not manage or prescribe any medications.
Calmerry Customer Reviews
By and large, customers are satisfied with the services they receive from Calmerry. But since the company is only a couple of years old, online customer reviews are few and far between. It has a relatively high rating with TrustPilot, without any negative feedback. The company isn’t registered with the Better Business Bureau, so you won’t find any information on its site.

Calmerry does not accept insurance, and you can’t use your HSA or FSA to pay for the services. So, you’ll need to pay out of pocket. Calmerry has three subscription plans, but unlike most online mental health platforms, the prices of the plan aren’t readily available on the website until you create an account.
Unlimited Messaging Plan
This plan includes unlimited messaging via the Calmerry website or app and costs around $230 a month. You can send texts, audio or video messages to your therapist at any time. You’ll also have access to Calmerry’s mood tracking and reflection tool.
Unlimited Messaging Plus One Video Session
This plan costs around $300 a month and includes unlimited messaging through text, audio or video. You’ll also get one live 30-minute video session each month, but can buy extra sessions for $40 to $45 each. This plan gives you access to Calmerry’s mood tracking and reflection tool.
Unlimited Messaging Plus Four Video Sessions
This plan is the most comprehensive and will cost around $360 a month. You’ll have access to unlimited text, audio and video messaging, as well as four live 30-minute video sessions each month. This plan also allows you to buy extra live video sessions for between $40 and $45. You’ll also have access to Calmerry’s mood tracking and reflection tool.
You may receive a discount from the prices listed here, but those are usually only applicable for the first month of your subscription.
If you aren’t ready to commit to a subscription plan, Calmerry offers a special weekly package. For around $65, you can start therapy and just go week to week, instead of month to month. You can participate in messaging and live video therapy with the weekly package.
Calmerry says you can cancel your subscription at any time, but refunds are made on a case-by-case basis.
